Tour Itinerary

DAY 1

Tarangire National Park

In the morning after breakfast (around 6:00 a.m.) your driver-guide will arrive at the hotel and inform the receptionist that he is waiting for you. After meeting up with your driver you will travel to Tarangire National Park, and by 10:00 a.m. you will already be on your first safari! Tarangire is huge. As you stand at the park gate and look south, it stretches as far as the eye can see. Known as the ‘Elephant Playground,’ this spectacular park contains largest population of these mighty mammals. But Tarangire is also home to buffalo, lion, gnu, zebra and gazelle and the park can rival Serengeti for sheer animal densities. What might you see today? Perhaps a solitary male lion stretched out beneath a tree, perhaps a trio of male cheetah enjoying some lazy bonding-time in the sun. Maybe some graceful Grant’s gazelle or zebra bounding away from the road or a couple of giraffes munching happily from the choicest acacia branches. For Tarangire specialties, look out for kudu and Oryx.

DAY 2

Ngorongoro Crater

A nice early start then a drive pass the Rift Valley (Africa’s graben fault) up to the cooler regions of the crater uplands. The Ngorongoro Crater is almost 600m deep and in this massive caldera you will find an amazing variety of animals. DAY TRIPS & TOUR

More Culture and Life Experience in Africa Just For You.

KIKULETWA HOT SPRING (CHEMKA)

Kikuletwa Hot Springs or mostly known as Chemka Hot Spring is situated in dazzling Rundugai Village that is in the middle of Moshi and Arusha. The town with the stupendous hot spring makes it an ideal entryway for a road trip while visiting Tanzania. The place offers delightful normal environmental factors, protected and clean water to take a jump in. The characteristic pool encompassed by the stunning foundations of fig trees isn’t much crowded and you can appreciate a BBQ or delicious nearby lunch in the wake of taking a swim inside the warm water.

In the center of a semi-dry scene stands this desert spring of rambling fig trees that surround crystal-clear water that gushes from the profound underground, giving the impression that it is bubbling, consequently the name “Natural aquifers”. The water is perfectly reviving, so bring your swimsuit and take a plunge, at that point relax under the obscure trees.

A little desert garden just a short drives of the fundamental street among Moshi and Arusha, the Kikuletwa underground aquifers are the ideal place to relax and perhaps the best activity in the Arusha and Moshi area. And as it’s not just the objective that matters, the journey up to the underground aquifers is one to recall too. A few streets lead here and we’ll pick the best one as per the season. You’ll drive through sunflower fields in May and June and through an ocean of red blossoms and sugarcane toward the year’s end, at TPC sugar estate, Moshi. What’s more, on clear days, you’re in for some delightful perspectives on Mount Kilimanjaro, regardless of what month it is.

MOSHI CITY

Moshi is a town in northern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border. It’s known as a gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Trails run up the mountain’s cloud-ringed, snow-capped dome, through alpine forests and meadows home to elephants and leopards. The city was originally established as a military camp by the Germans it quickly developed into a town, thanks to its railway station and the emerging coffee trade in the region.

Moshi is a melting pot in all senses: Western supermarkets find their place next to the colorful local markets, the three main religions; Christians, Muslims, and Hindus live peacefully next to one another, and local and international cafes and restaurants offering dishes from all over the world competing against the local cuisine.

This tour allows yytrgfv5ghghggh;’////////ou to mingle with the local people to see their daily activities at the local market (Farmer’s market), visit some souvenir shops, and restaurants with a local dishes, and then end up at a historical area – the Old Railway station. The trip lasts about 5 hours to 10 hours.

The tour will take you to all these places giving you an insight into everyday life in Moshi. You will have the chance to taste different types of local food and on bright days you will enjoy the stunning view of Kilimanjaro.

You’ll dive right into the bustling daily life of Moshi, cycling at a leisurely pace to the Majengo district of Moshi, which is the heartland of Moshi craft. Check out the dizzying array of local crafts and hand-made goods artily arranged at the roadside. From here you’ll pass through the small farms and family houses of the Msaranga area, taking in the daily activities of schools, mosques, and churches as you ride by.

Your journey can take you through fields of growing rice, one of Tanzania’s staple foods and you will have an opportunity of helping out the local field workers. You’ll certainly gain an appreciation of how much hard work goes into a sack of rice! Enjoy the product of your (albeit short) labor with a tasty lunch, hosted by a friendly local family. You can enjoy pilau, a traditional rice-based Tanzanian meal, as you chill out with your host family on their shady veranda.

You may arrange a bike ride through the Rau Forest, a jewel of protected tropical woodland, alive with birdsong and the calls of animals. Keep an eye out for the black-and-white faces of colobus monkeys peering curiously at you as you go by. You won’t be the first to wonder just how fluffy a monkey tail can be.

Once through the shady canopy of the Rau Forest, you can arrange a visit stop to the old railway station. You might feel you’ve stepped back one hundred years to German colonial times; close your eyes and you can still sense the energy and bustle echoing down the century. With a little bit of luck, you’ll have a great view of Kilimanjaro while sipping a cold beer from the railway station bar, a lovely final stop before your going back into town where you can finally rest your weary but happy legs.

Hazabe and Datoge Experience at Lake Eyasi (Bushmen)

Lake Eyasi is an untouched and scenically beautiful area where you can get a real insight into the way of life of the rural tribes like the Datoga and Hadzabe Bushmen. The Datoga are farmers and silversmith’s who make iron knives and spears. The Hadzabe hunt on wild animals with bow and arrows, eating roots, honey and wild fruits. Visit their habitat and experience their culture first hand. You can participate in their real life activities such as hunting and fire making. For a lot of people these are one of the most valuable and memorable experiences of their safari.

Maasai Culture

Explore the lifestyle of the graceful Maasai Warriors during a visit to their village. Maasai are nomadic people who herd and breed cattle and are known for their lively cultural dance, colourful clothing and beadwork. During your time in the village, activities may include Maasai dancing, watching warriors demonstrate how to make fire, spear throwing and witnessing women craft beaded jewellery. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a great place to visit a Maasai village.

Chagga Culture

If you look at Kilimanjaro’s history, one culture stands out as being intimately tied to the mountain: the Chagga. But the Chagga didn’t live around the foothills of Kilimanjaro in isolation, and in fact, for several centuries, they weren’t a unified culture at all.

Much like their neighbors (and longtime adversaries) the Maasai, the Chagga peoples were divided into multiple clans, which were then further divided into mitaa, or petty chiefdoms. Today, these clans have consciously come together to form the modern Chagga culture. But as recently as the turn of the 20th century, they were at war with not only their neighbors, but with one another. Each clan had a distinctive territory along the southern and eastern slopes of the mountain. Natural boundaries including ridges, rocky outcroppings, and ravines usually defined the borders between one clan’s land and another’s.

MATERUNI VILLAGE

A tour of Materuni Village and Waterfalls is a good way to spend a day away from the bustle of Moshi town life. The walk to Materuni Waterfall offers a glimpse into the nature of Tanzania while giving you a bit of a workout to either prepare your body for the forthcoming climbing to the highest point of Africa – Kilimanjaro, or ease your muscles after the climb.

Start your mini-adventure with the short but fascinating drive from Moshi up the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to the village of Materuni, approximately 1,800 meters above sea level. This is market garden territory and has the perfect mixture of climate and soil to produce some of the best coffee in Africa. You’ll visit a coffee farm and learn about how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, and you’ll try your hand at roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way. After a delightful coffee break (so much better than the ones at work!) you’ll take a beautiful 45-minute hike through the hills and valleys route to Materuni Falls.

You’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations, up and down mini-valleys, across ridges, and through narrow splashing rivulets. Along the way, your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, as well as give you more insight into the local Chagga culture. It’s your chance to ask questions about a lifestyle that’s probably very different from your own! You’ll hear the falls before you see them, and once they come into view, you might be lucky enough to see a rainbow sheen as the splashing waters split the sunlight.

The Falls are hidden away in a pristine valley with cliffs towering 200ft overhead. The mountain waters fall straight down in a shimmering curtain to splash in the rippling pool where you can float, take a swim and chill out – literally, as these are pure mountain waters and not yet heated by the sun. But it’ll be welcome after your hike, we bet.

MARANGU VILLAGE

Marangu waterfall is located near Marangu village in Moshi, a town inhabited by the Chagga people, and is located at 1800 meters above sea level, just before the Kilimanjaro trail. Experience hiking, culture & history.

Our Marangu day trip has it all: culture, cuisine, caves, and plenty of lively conversation. You’ll even take a dip in a waterfall or two, so bring your cozzie.

Marangu town nestles on the fertile slopes of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, and it’s brimming with tradition. You’ll explore the culture and terrifying history of the Chagga Tribe (they built those caves for a reason) and you’ll take a short but delightful hike in the lush green landscape to a sparkling waterfall but, don’t worry, you won’t run out of energy because you’ll visit a coffee plantation and have the chance to roast and make your own coffee. The buzz you’ll get from our packed-so-full-it-hurts Marangu day trip won’t just be the caffeine.

We’ll leave Moshi first thing in the morning, skirting Kilimanjaro’s foothills with the rising sun on our right. Our first stop is the Marangu Gate at 1900m, which is the starting point for the Marangu climbing route. It’s an amazing start to your day; a weird mixture of the quiet calm of the green montane forest and the tense excitement of the climbers about to ascend Kilimanjaro. The mood is catching and we may have to bustle you back into the van before you take off up the mountain!

Your nose will tell you about our second stop before we get there. Marangu is a coffee country, and the beans are locally grown, blended, and roasted. We’ll stop at a bijou coffee farm, where you’ll learn how the locals grow, harvest, and process their coffee beans that grow in this perfect climate. You’ll even get the chance to try your hand at roasting and preparing your own cup of lovely, fresh coffee.

All this culture is probably giving you an appetite, so our next stop is for a tasty and traditionally Chagga lunch at our favorite little restaurant, where you’ll be served a hot meal (veggies catered for!).

Next, we’ll depart for the Ndoro Waterfalls for some post-prandial fresh air. The thirty-minute hike to the base of the waterfall will lead us through a lush green forest and a steep climb down to the rocks. Enjoy the sparkling waters tumbling down the falls from the Rockside or take a refreshing dip in the pool itself.

A dark contrast is a visit to the extensive Chagga Underground Caves, built by the Chagga to keep them safe from the Masaai who, in earlier times, migrated up the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro to enslave or kill them. We’ll spend a fascinating hour or so at the Chagga Live Museum, an outdoor space that will give you further insight into traditional Chagga life. The wandering goats lend some added authenticity! We’ll round off this action-packed day with a cheeky banana beer or naughty glass of banana wine – this is banana country, after all, so make the most of it!

You’ll get a nice sit down as we casually motor back to Moshi; we won’t complain if you have a crafty snooze on the way although there’s always something to see as we wind through the villages, foothills, and roadways home. You’ll have experienced so much in such a short time, you deserve a rest.

LAKE CHALA

Lake Chala is a crater lake in a caldera located on the border of Tanzania and Kenya on the eastern end of Kilimanjaro. This place is a real find for tourists who like panoramic views and quiet recreation.

Your friendly guide will arrive at your accommodation armed with your tasty packed lunch. Then he or she will bustle you into the transport and drive you to Lake Chala Safari Camp. On the way, you’ll journey through the everyday life of Moshi and onto the freeway, and you can spend a relaxing, comfortable hour and a bit taking in the sights.

Lake Chala Safari Camp is a beautiful private game reserve overlooking Lake Chala. You’ll arrive there and our guide will take you down to the lakeside, through vividly green flora, with the blue, blue lake ahead of you. It gets quite rocky near the lake so wear sturdy footwear. It’s a stunning area perfect for hikers and birdwatchers, and in season you might be lucky enough to spot elephants gathering at a distant waterhole. Spend the day wandering the paths around the lake or across the nearby savannah, where you’re likely to see baboons, velvet monkeys and blue monkeys as well as (perhaps) the shy dik-dik and graceful kudu, too.

After your hike, spend some time sitting by the lakeside enjoying the stillness, only disturbed by birdsong and the gently lapping waters. If you’re feeling a little more active, you can jump into a kayak and explore the lake further. You’ll be serenaded by the ever-present birdsong and gentle plashing of the water as you row.

After your adventures, stop at the bar for a drink (alcoholic or otherwise) and, if you’re a little peckish, an afternoon snack. If you haven’t opted to camp at the Lake (think campfire under the star-filled heavens), you’ll be driven back to Moshi in the late afternoon. The pleasant drive will give you some “you” time to reflect on your day and wonder if it would be rude to go straight to bed when you get back – you won’t believe how tired you’ll feel after a day of restorative, stress-relieving peace.
