Trekking Hours: 4-5 hours
After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel in Moshi and taken to the Marangu gate. You will trek through the dense rainforest, with chances of seeing primates, before reaching Mandara Hut. An optional visit to the Maundi Crater offers stunning views of the Kenyan interior.
Trekking Hours: 8-9 hours
Today, you will pass the timberline and enter the heath and moor zone. After 4-6 hours, you will reach Horombo Hut (3,700m), where you will enjoy fantastic views of Mawenzi, Kibo, and the Masai steppe.
Trekking Hours: 2-3 hours
This is an acclimatization day. You have the option to hike to Zebra Rocks (4,100m), known for their distinctive black and white coloration due to mineral-laden water. You will return to Horombo Hut for another night.
Trekking Hours: 5-6 hours
The trail crosses the "Last Water Point" and the barren "Saddle" connecting Kibo and Mawenzi. You will arrive at Kibo Hut, have an early meal, and rest in preparation for the summit push.
Trekking Hours: 12-14 hours
At midnight, you begin the final ascent. Passing Hans Meyer Cave (5,220m), you will reach Gillman’s Point (5,681m) at sunrise. After another 1-2 hours, you will stand at Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa! You then descend to Kibo Hut for a break before continuing to Horombo Hut.
Trekking Hours: 7-8 hours
The final descent passes through the heath zone to Mandara Hut, where lunch awaits. After 6 hours of trekking, you will return to Marangu Gate and be transferred to your hotel in Moshi.
